Commonly Asked Questions
What should my child wear to preschool?
Although uniform is not compulsory, it is recommended. Our uniform can be found by clicking here. If you would like Second hand uniform please contact us by email or speak to a member of staff.
If you do not wish to purchase a uniform, please ensure your child is dressed in clothing that you do not mind getting dirty, due to the messy nature of preschool. Please also ensure their clothing is comfortable and easy to pull up/down to make toileting easier.
What does my child need to bring to preschool?
All children are asked to provide clothing, boots, coat and hats, which are appropriate for that day's weather. Children should also bring a bag containing changes of clothes and nappies (if needed). They will need a water bottle for throughout the day. All items must be clearly named. If your child attends full days, or afternoon sessions, please bring a lunchbox too.
My child is staying for lunch, what will they need?
Children who stay for lunch will need to bring their own packed lunch, with a cold pack and water bottle. We encourage parents to provide a healthy lunch, meaning sweets/chocolate and fizzy drinks are not permitted. We are also a NUT free setting due to allergies and would remind parents to refrain from including any products which contain nuts as an ingredients in their child’s lunchbox.
Snack time?
Ladybird provides a balanced healthy variety of snack.
If you could be so kind to provide something for snack occasionally, we would be very grateful. (Breadsticks, rice cakes, fruit, vegetables, plain biscuits, dried fruit, etc) Please contact us if you would like to bring something but not sure what.
At snack time we offer water and milk, with an occasional treat of milkshake, low sugar squash or smoothie.
We provide two snacks a day one either side of lunch.
What should my child bring if they attend a Wild space session?
All children are asked to provide water proof over clothing (e.g. all in one or trousers and coat), Wellington boots, coat and hats, which are appropriate for that days weather. Children should also bring a bag containing changes of clothes. All items must be clearly named.
As well as the normal requirements for a session. see above.
How do I notify setting that my child is poorly and/or isn't coming in today?
If your child is unwell/having a day off and not be attending Ladybird, please email/call each morning that your child is due to attend.
What about toilet training?
Children do not need to be toilet-trained to attend our setting.
We ask you to provide us with a bag containing nappies, wipes, and a change of clothes so that we can attend to your child throughout the day.
We will happily work with you during toilet training, when you decide to start and the child is ready. Please provide us with plenty of clothes and an extra pair of shoes in case of accidents.
How can I stay up-to-date with everything my child does at Ladybird?
Great two way communication is key to supporting little ones with their Early Years Development Journey.
We use 'Tapestry' a secure online learning journal, separate for each child. Where the child's Key worker/buddy and parents/carers can communicate on activities, development, home life/adventures, WOW moments and questions can be shared.
Discussions can happen at the end of the session pick up or at a prearranged meeting.
If you have any questions, we also welcome you to contact us through email.
